How to Hire a Next.js Developer in Pakistan (2026)
By Sovaid Shah, Software Architect · Hiring · Next.js · Pakistan · Remote work
TL;DR: Pakistan runs on PKT (UTC+5) with no daylight saving, which gives EU teams a morning overlap and US East teams an early-morning one. Published Pakistan staffing rates for senior developers sit around $24–34/hour full-time through agencies; direct freelancers often quote higher. Hire on proof: ask for production numbers, a code walkthrough and a short paid trial. Pay through Wise, Payoneer or bank transfer, since PayPal does not operate in Pakistan.
I’m a Next.js developer and software architect in Lahore, so I’m biased. I’ll keep this useful anyway: what to check, what it costs and where hiring from Pakistan goes wrong.
Why hire a Next.js developer from Pakistan?
Time zones. Pakistan Standard Time is UTC+5, all year, with no daylight saving. That means:
- UK: Pakistan is 4 hours ahead in summer (BST) and 5 in winter (GMT). A developer working 12pm–9pm PKT covers the whole UK morning.
- Central Europe: 3–4 hours ahead. Plenty of overlap.
- US East: 9–10 hours ahead. Expect a short overlap at the start of your day and async work the rest of the time.
Talent. Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad have large React and Next.js communities, plenty of developers who’ve worked with US and EU product teams, and English as the working language.
Cost. Senior rates are well below US onshore rates. That’s the reason most teams look, but it’s the worst reason to choose one person over another.
What does it cost?
Rates vary a lot with seniority and engagement type. As one public reference point, Pakistan staffing firm Devstrom publishes all-inclusive monthly rates for full-time dedicated developers: senior (5+ years) at $3,800–5,500/month, about $24–34/hour, and tech leads higher. Independent senior freelancers usually quote more per hour than agency full-time rates, because they carry their own downtime and overhead.
Be careful with rates far below the market. They usually mean junior work billed as senior.
Freelancer, agency or direct hire?
- Direct freelancer or contractor. You talk to the person writing the code. Best for senior, self-directed work. You need to vet carefully.
- Agency or staff augmentation. They handle replacements, payroll and equipment. You pay a margin, and sometimes the person you interviewed isn’t the person who shows up.
- Employer of record (Deel, Remote.com and similar). For full-time hires who need employment-style contracts without you setting up a Pakistani entity.
How to vet a Next.js developer
A portfolio of nice screenshots tells you very little. Ask for these instead:
- A production number they moved, and how. Load time, conversion, organic traffic, error rate. Senior developers remember their numbers. For example, my own work on the Cercle marketplace cut cart abandonment 30% (details in the case study).
- A rendering decision they made. “Why was this page SSR and that one static?” If they can’t explain the trade-off, they’re following a template.
- A code walkthrough of something they built, on a call. Ask what they’d change today.
- A short paid trial. One or two weeks on a real but contained task. It’s the best signal you can buy.
Things to watch out for: everything is client-rendered with no reason given, “SEO” means only meta tags, and nothing has a measured result.
Contracts and payments
- Use a written contract with IP assignment, confidentiality and clear payment terms. Plenty of templates exist, and EOR platforms include them.
- PayPal doesn’t operate in Pakistan. Use Wise, Payoneer or a direct bank transfer. Most experienced Pakistani contractors already have at least one set up.
- Agree working hours and response times in writing. Lots of async work is fine if the overlap is clearly defined.
FAQ
Is it safe to hire a remote developer from Pakistan?
Yes, with the same safeguards you’d use anywhere: a written contract with IP assignment, a paid trial, access through your own accounts, and milestone-based payments for fixed-scope work.
What hours do Pakistani developers work for US clients?
Commonly a shifted day, such as 2pm–11pm PKT, which overlaps US East mornings. Agree on it up front. Fully async with a short daily overlap also works well.
How long does it take to hire?
Direct hires can start within days of a good trial. Agencies often promise matched candidates within one to two weeks.
